Ingredients

Filling
  • 6 large apples, peeled, cored, and thinly sliced Use a mix of sweet and tart varieties for best flavor.
  • 0.5 cup granulated sugar
  • 1 teaspoon cinnamon
  • 1 tablespoon lemon juice
  • 1 cup raisins
  • 0.5 cup walnuts, chopped Can substitute with pecans.
Pastry
  • 1 package phyllo dough
  • 0.5 cup unsalted butter, melted Plus extra for brushing.
  • Powdered sugar for dusting

Method

Preparation
  1. Preheat your oven to 375°F (190°C).
  2. In a large bowl, mix together the sliced apples, granulated sugar, cinnamon, lemon juice, raisins, and chopped walnuts until well combined.
  3. Lay out a sheet of phyllo dough on a clean, flat surface. Brush it lightly with melted butter. Repeat this for additional sheets, layering them on top of each other while brushing each layer with butter.
  4. Spoon the apple mixture along one edge of the phyllo dough, leaving some space at the edges.
  5. Carefully roll the dough over the filling, tucking in the edges as you go to seal the strudel.
  6. Place the rolled strudel on a baking sheet lined with parchment paper.
  7. Brush the top of the strudel with remaining melted butter to help it achieve a beautiful golden color while baking.
Baking
  1. Bake for 30-40 minutes or until the strudel is golden brown and crispy.
  2. Allow it to cool slightly before dusting the top with powdered sugar to give it that perfect finishing touch.

Notes

For best results, cover unused phyllo sheets with a slightly damp cloth to prevent them from drying out. This strudel pairs well with vanilla ice cream, whipped cream, or warm custard.
