Ingredients

For the patties
  • 2 lbs Ground beef (80/20 blend) Best flavor and juicy textures.
  • 1/2 cup Breadcrumbs (Plain or seasoned)
  • 1 large Egg (Beaten)
  • 1 medium Onion (Finely diced)
  • 2 tsp Salt
  • 1 tsp Black pepper
For the gravy
  • 3 tbsp Butter (Salted or unsalted)
  • 3 tbsp All-purpose flour For thickening gravy.
  • 2 cups Beef broth (Low sodium preferred)
  • 1 cup Heavy cream Can be substituted with half-and-half or milk.
  • 1 medium Onion (Sliced)
  • 1 tsp Garlic powder

Method

Preparation
  1. In a large bowl, gently mix the ground beef, breadcrumbs, beaten egg, diced onion, salt, and pepper until just combined.
  2. Form the mixture into 6–8 oval-shaped patties and let them rest.
Cooking
  1. In an oven-safe skillet, brown the patties on medium heat for about 3–4 minutes on each side until golden brown.
  2. Remove the patties from the skillet and set them aside.
  3. In the same skillet, add the sliced onions and sauté in butter until softened, about 3–5 minutes.
  4. Sprinkle in the flour and stir for about 2 minutes until well combined.
  5. Gradually whisk in the beef broth and heavy cream until smooth.
  6. Carefully nestle the browned patties back into the gravy.
  7. Cover the skillet and bake in a preheated oven at 350°F (175°C) for 45 minutes.
  8. After 45 minutes, remove the cover and bake for an additional 15 minutes.
Serving
  1. Let the skillet rest for about 10 minutes before serving.
  2. Serve directly from the skillet with mashed potatoes, rice, or noodles.

Notes

Use quality beef for better flavor. Don't over-mix the patties to keep them tender. Variations may include adding mushrooms or bell peppers to the gravy.
