Ingredients

Main Ingredients
  • 2 cups 4 apples, peeled, cored, and pureed About 480 ml; can substitute with other fruit purees like pears.
  • 4 large eggs Helps with the structure, keeping the dessert light and fluffy.
  • 1 cup unsweetened cocoa powder Use only unsweetened for the best flavor.
  • 1 teaspoon baking powder
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract Optional, but recommended.

Method

Preparation
  1. Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C). Grease your baking dish with a little oil or cooking spray to prevent sticking.
  2. In a large bowl, combine the pureed apples with the eggs. Use a whisk to blend them together until it’s smooth and uniform.
  3. Sift in the cocoa powder and baking powder. If using, add the vanilla extract. Mix until the batter is freely flowing and well combined.
  4. Pour the batter into the prepared baking dish. Spread it evenly using a spatula to ensure it bakes uniformly.
Baking
  1. Bake in the preheated oven for about 25-30 minutes, or until the dessert has risen slightly. A toothpick inserted into the center should come out clean when it’s finished baking.
  2. Let it cool for at least 15 minutes before cutting into squares for serving.

Notes

Ensure you puree the apples thoroughly for a smooth texture; any chunks can affect the final result. For an extra chocolate hit, consider folding in some dark chocolate chips before baking. Storage: Store any leftovers in an airtight container in the refrigerator for up to 3 days. Reheating: Warm in the microwave for about 15-20 seconds.
