Ingredients

Meatloaf Mixture
  • 1 pound ground beef or turkey Feel free to use lean ground turkey for a lighter option.
  • 1 small onion, finely chopped (about 1/2 cup or 75 g)
  • 1 cup carrot, grated (about 1/2 cup or 60 g)
  • 1 cup breadcrumbs Can substitute with gluten-free options.
  • 2 pieces eggs
  • 1 cup milk (240 ml)
  • 1 tablespoon Worcestershire sauce
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • 1 teaspoon pepper
  • 1/2 teaspoon garlic powder
  • 1/2 teaspoon dried thyme
Topping
  • 1/4 cup ketchup or BBQ sauce For topping.

Method

Preparation
  1. Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C). This step is crucial for even cooking.
  2. In a large mixing bowl, combine the ground beef or turkey with the chopped onion, grated carrot, breadcrumbs, eggs, milk, Worcestershire sauce, salt, pepper, garlic powder, and dried thyme. Mix everything together until just combined; be careful not to overmix, as this can make the meatloaf dense.
  3. Transfer the mixture to a loaf pan or shape it into a loaf on a lined baking sheet. Make sure it's evenly placed.
  4. Spread the ketchup or BBQ sauce over the top of the loaf. This adds moisture and a nice glaze as it bakes.
Cooking
  1. Place the loaf in the preheated oven and bake for about 60-70 minutes, or until the internal temperature reaches 160°F (70°C). The meatloaf should be firm and nicely browned on the outside.
  2. Allow the meatloaf to rest for about 10 minutes before slicing. This helps it hold its shape when you cut it.

Notes

Serve with a side of steamed veggies or mashed potatoes for a fully comforting meal. Leftovers make excellent sandwiches with a bit of mustard or mayo.
