Ingredients

Filling
  • 2 pounds red sweet apples, peeled and sliced Choose sweet and tart apples for the best flavor balance.
  • 1 tablespoon lemon juice (optional) Helps prevent browning of the apples.
  • 40 g granulated sugar
  • 1 teaspoon cinnamon (optional) Adds warmth to the flavor.
Crust
  • 60 g unsalted butter, diced Dot over the apple filling for richness.
  • 1 pie crust store-bought or homemade

Method

Preparation
  1. Preheat your oven to 400°F (200°C).
  2. In a mixing bowl, combine the sliced apples, lemon juice, sugar, and cinnamon. Let the mixture sit for about 10 minutes.
  3. On a lightly floured surface, roll out your pie dough to about 1/8-inch thick. Carefully place it into your pie dish, pressing it down gently.
Assembly
  1. Pour the apple mixture into the crust and dot the top with small pieces of butter.
  2. If using a second pie crust, roll it out, cut slits for ventilation, and place it over the apples. Crimp the edges to seal.
Baking
  1. Bake on a baking sheet for 45-50 minutes, until the crust is golden brown and the filling is bubbling.
  2. Allow the pie to cool for at least 30 minutes before slicing.

Notes

Serve warm or at room temperature, perhaps with a scoop of ice cream or drizzle of caramel sauce.
